Recalling childhood memories of chasing fireflies into the summer nights; lessons about control, and compassion.
A children's constellation,
glowing green stars in its midst;
tucked away inside a fist.
First darkness, then a lightening,
flying beacons cross the field;
As the jar lid begins tightening,
fate of Firefly is sealed.
A boy has been successful
catching lightning in a jar;
though the trip proves rather stressful,
Firefly need not go far.
In youthful exaltation
the boy de-lights in his lament;
but came Firefly's salvation
when his Master did repent.
For the boy who's captivated
by the hunt to trap his prey,
knows that Firefly's created
to fly on his merry way.
The children's constellation
gains a star back in its midst;
through a young man's open fist.
